What do we mean by “More Than Mediation”?
Here is one glimpse. These young people (well, they seem young compared with me!) needed a parenting plan so they could take equal part in the raising of the two children they share. This is not an easy task under any circumstances. At NCRC, we believe the process is made better when we help the participants hear each other with compassion and respond to each other’s needs with respect. By working patiently to open paths of empathetic communication, the participants are far better able to craft agreements that they believe represent their interests, meet their needs, and will be sustainable over time. The process also helps them set a tone for future communication. This photograph was taken in the front yard of the NCRC office right after mediation. I see a lot of our “more” in those smiles, and it makes me feel deeply grateful to our volunteers and donors who make this possible.
